Overview

A quick way to transform your smile and hide basic surface flaws, like chipped, crooked, or stained teeth, is to get porcelain veneers at Luminous Dental Studio. Dental veneers are thin shells made out of porcelain that can be bonded to the front of your teeth to improve the appearance of your smile. Offering customized and minimal-prep veneers, our general dentists, Dr. Nam Kim and Dr. Minho Chang, can enhance the color, size, shape, or length of your teeth. We provide veneers with superior quality, like the e.Max or zirconia veneers.

Little imperfections in your teeth, like tiny chips, cracks, gaps, and discoloration, may need a longer-lasting solution than a fix with a resin material. Our minimal prep veneers are lifelike and will match your natural tooth color. Not sure how veneers would make your smile look? We offer Smile Design, a computerized simulation software by Planmeca, to help you visualize your new smile. Schedule an appointment at our Frisco, TX office to learn more about porcelain veneers and decide if they are right for your needs.

Best Candidates

During your consultation, Dr. Kim or Dr. Chang will listen to your goals and expectations to make recommendations for your treatment. One of our experienced dentists will assess your overall oral health to determine if porcelain veneers are the right type of treatment, which you would benefit the most from in the long run. If you show the signs of gum disease, habitually clench your jaw, or grind your teeth while you sleep (called bruxism), then you are not likely to an appropriate candidate for this type of cosmetic dentistry. You may want porcelain veneers for your teeth because of the following:

  • Surface flaws, like chips, cracks, or stains
  • Small, dark spots or discoloration in highly visible areas
  • Teeth that are not shaped correctly, uneven in length, or worn down
  • Old fillings that need to be replaced

At Luminous Dental Studio, your veneers will be custom made to fit comfortably over your imperfections without the need for more intensive dentistry or restorations.

What To Expect

We will take a precise 3D digital impression of your teeth with our PlanScan® intraoral scanner by Planmeca. Your veneers may be made in our office while you wait, or the impressions can be sent to a dental laboratory where your custom veneers will be crafted out of high-quality porcelain material. If sent out, you will come back for a second visit to have the veneers applied.

To attach the veneer, a small amount of enamel must be removed from the front of your teeth. This both creates space for the veneers and improves the bond for a more natural result that lasts a long time. Once your veneers are bonded, Dr. Kim or Dr. Chang may make minor adjustments so your veneers fit comfortably. Some patients may need to have their gums reshaped with our Gemini™ diode laser for the best results.

Follow-up

Veneers typically do not require anesthesia. You should be able to resume your daily activities after your appointment. There may be some sensitivity to hot and cold food for a few days, but this should subside naturally. Your veneers should be cleaned just like your natural teeth with brushing and flossing. While porcelain veneers are more resistant to stains compared to your enamel, you should still avoid staining foods and drinks to keep your smile bright. To avoid damaging your veneers, you should not chew on hard objects, such as ice or hard candies. Continue to schedule dental exams and cleanings at Luminous Dental Studio so we can monitor the condition of your veneers and your overall oral health. Our dental team will let you know if your veneers need to be repaired or replaced.
