Overview
The best thing you can have when a dental emergency happens is a plan of action. Our general dentists, Dr. Nam Kim and Dr. Minho Chang, would like to offer you their emergency dental care services in Frisco, TX when accidents happen. Incidents can result from biting or chewing food that's too hard, sticky, or tough for your teeth to handle, a mishap while playing sports, a bad fall, or an unfortunate blunt-force injury. You may or may not feel pain, but it's important to have your teeth checked out after an injury. The sooner you get dental care, you decrease your chances for the need for more invasive, expensive treatments. At Luminous Dental Studio, we will always make your dental emergency a priority by providing immediate treatment and compassionate care. We also have sedation dentistry with nitrous oxide available for patients who qualify. Knowing that your dentists provide after-hours emergency care may bring you a great sense of comfort knowing that if an accident happens, you can see your own dentist in your time of need. We are here for you at Luminous Dental Studio for the day-to-day treatment but also for the situations where you want to be with a dentist you trust. Dr. Chang and Dr. Kim are here to serve you. In most cases, we can provide you with a same-day appointment. You are welcome to call our office for a regular appointment; however, you can also count on us for your dental emergencies.

Best Candidates
In case of an accident, you will need emergency care if a tooth or restoration comes out, you are in pain, or your tooth is cracked. In some circumstances, you may be unsure how quickly you need treatment (for example, a loose tooth or restoration, a trauma that does not cause pain or bleeding, or a chipped tooth). Anytime you experience an injury to your mouth, including your teeth, gums, or jawbone, it's best to contact our office. Dr. Chang or Dr. Kim can help you decide when to come in, ways to manage any pain, and how to preserve your tooth or restoration. Some of the usual dental emergencies we see at Luminous Dental Studio are:
- Broken dental restoration(s)
- Dental abscesses
- Swelling in the face and lips
- Knocked out tooth or teeth
- Infection (with or without fever) that is causing severe pain
- Lacerations on the soft tissues in your mouth
- Sports injuries involving the teeth and mouth
- Accidents that result in dental trauma
Even seemingly minor injuries can lead to bigger problems if not treated right away so it is best to err on the side of caution and contact our office immediately.
What To Expect
From a painful toothache to a knocked-out tooth, we have seen many critical situations arise when it comes to dental emergencies. You should expect our dedicated dental team to carefully assess your situation with compassion. We will utilize our NOMAD digital x-rays and imaging to detect any hidden conditions, infection, an abscess, or an invisible trauma to your teeth, gums, and/or facial bones. Once your dentist, Dr. Chang or Dr. Kim, understands the extent of your condition, he will talk to you about options and create your treatment plan. You may need one or several appointments to address the situation.
Follow-Up
Based on your condition, Dr. Chang or Dr. Kim will give you instructions to help you heal after your treatment at Luminous Dental Studio. We may write you a prescription for antibiotics or pain medication that should be taken as directed. You will also need to schedule a follow-up appointment (especially if your emergency happens after hours). During your annual dental exam at Luminous Dental Studio, we will check on the area of your mouth that needed emergency care to document your healing and progress.
Once your dental emergency is treated, we may share ways to prevent future dental injuries, including wearing a custom mouth guard during sporting events (many accidents happen on the field or during competitive play).
