Overview
If you are old enough to remember the gooey impressions dentists used to perform to make a mold of your mouth, you know how long and sometimes uncomfortable the process was to endure. If you have never had to make an impression with putty-like impression material filled to the brim of a dental tray, many would consider you lucky (especially if you have an easy gag reflex). Long gone are the days of the physical dental impression!
At Luminous Dental Studio, we understand that the impressions of the past were problematic for patients, which is why we offer digit impressions. Our general dentists, Dr. Minho Chang and Dr. Nam Kim, use the Planscan digital intraoral scanner by Planmeca (in full color). Our digital impressions are quickly scanned and transferred electronically to our dental laboratory. This enables us to create a precise model of your teeth that can be used to create implants, crowns, onlays, inlays, dentures, and more. If you need restorative dental work, come to Luminous Dental Studio in Frisco, TX for our 3D digital impressions.

Best Candidates
Digital 3D impressions are ideal for patients of all ages who have a strong gag reflex and/or people who want to avoid the stress of making a physical impression. You would be a great candidate if you need to have a custom dental restoration made, such as a crown, bridge, inlay, onlay, dentures, or removable orthodontic aligners. The intraoral technology we provide will create precise digital models of your teeth that can be sent directly to a dental laboratory electronically.
What to Expect
All you really have to do to have a digital 3D impression is relax in the treatment chair. We will pass a small scanning wand around your mouth. This tool uses blue wavelength light to reliably capture all areas, corners, and crevices of your teeth and gums. After the scanning is complete, a model of your teeth will appear on the monitor. If any areas were missed during the initial scan, a simple re-scan can be administered to catch the necessary areas. In the past, if your mold was not accurate, it would require making a second dental mold. 3D impressions can save everyone involved a lot of time and anxiety — especially when something does not go right the first time.
Follow-Up
After your scans have been stored in your electronic dental record, they can be sent to a dental lab to make your needed restoration. Luminous Dental Studio will keep your 3D impressions on file. This will make it easier if you need something remade, or just to compare changes in your teeth.
